A unique mid-century gem is now selling for under $1 million in Mount Eliza, a Melbourne coastal enclave where homes featured on The Block are located. The $900,000 to $990,000 price guide is hundreds of thousands below the suburb median.
The solid three-bedroom brick house at 7 Vue Road, Mount Eliza, is less than a five-minute drive from several swimming beaches and village shops. It has leafy, north-facing established gardens and no neighbours opposite.
According to real estate agent Kara James from Area Specialist Keysborough, this house may appeal to buyers seeking a smaller residence in Mount Eliza that combines natural surroundings with a unique charm. Despite its strong points, the listing has not yet drawn significant attention from potential buyers.
James says unusual properties in premium locations like Mount Eliza require patient, targeted marketing. “It’s a quirky property, so we’ve just got to wait for the right buyer,” she says. The home was built in 1960 and last changed hands in 1977.
The suburb median house price is $1.65 million, according to local reports. Mount Eliza features a mix of housing styles, including older mid-century homes and modern architectural builds. Many properties sit on large land parcels, and areas with higher elevation offer views across Port Phillip Bay.
Inside, the Vue Road property features a spacious kitchen, tall ceilings, a working fireplace, gas heating throughout the home, and a split-system air conditioner. James notes the house is not positioned as a weekend retreat, suggesting it would suit either full-time residents or buyers planning to demolish and rebuild.
The property’s standout features are its secluded setting and scenic views, thanks in part to its placement on the beachside of the street. James observes that while the local market has stayed steady over the last two years, vendors are now more open to adjusting prices to match current demand.
James remains optimistic that a buyer will be found now that the asking price has dropped below $1 million. ‘This home offers affordable access to privacy, attractive views, well-maintained gardens, and stands out as one of the few remaining original properties in the area,’ she states. ‘It’s a solid investment.’
