Brooklyn Listings Six Months Later: Three Sold
This week, a look back at four of our featured listings from six months ago focused on homes in Brooklyn Heights, Sunset Park, and Park Slope. How did they fare?
A one-bedroom in a notable Brooklyn Heights Queen Anne townhouse is not huge, but it has a serene feel and plenty of original historic details as well as modern conveniences. It’s on the fourth floor of 87 Remsen Street, a zippy concoction of fine brickwork and decorative terra-cotta designed by architect William H. Beers in 1899 for a socially prominent family whose fortune came from straw hats. This former Co-op of the Day sold in May for the asking price of $750,000.
It certainly is a project for someone to tackle, but for those up to the challenge this early 20th century two-family has some history as colorful as its vintage kitchen and bath intact. In Sunset Park, it is on a stretch of 5th Avenue that’s within sight of the Gowanus Expressway, and is one of a row of modest two-story brick buildings with commercial storefronts. This former House of the Day is still available for $1.3 million, a price cut of $188,000.
Not exactly modest in size or ornamentation, this golden 1890s Park Slope townhouse has some dazzling exterior details and an expanse of living space filled with period features like mantels and wainscoting along with some updated amenities for modern life. In the Park Slope Historic District, 855 Carroll Street is also just a short stroll from Prospect Park. This former House of the Day sold in May for $5.725 million, which was $25,000 under the asking price.
This renovated two-family at 312 Garfield Place is also just a short walk from Prospect Park and was a House of the Day in 2021. Located in the Park Slope Historic District, the brownstone is one of a row of three built by developer William Flanagan , who was busy constructing dwellings in Park Slope in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Back on the market, this Open House Pick sold in May for $8.375 million, which was $520,000 under the asking price.
